A Glimpse of Europe Day Celebration at Glasgow, George Square
Hundreds of Scots joined together in Glasgow’s George Square on Wednesday to celebrate Europe Day 2018.
Each year, Europe Day is held on 9 May to commemorate Robert Schuman’s historic declaration which sparked the beginning of the European Union (EU).
With a focus on the European Year of Cultural Heritage, the event ran throughout the afternoon featuring exiting bands performances that brought colour to the event. The event bloomed with coloured flags representing all countries within the EU. Participants showcased multicultural artefacts, food and fashion to celebrate Glasgow’s diversity and strong relationship with European Union.

European Parliament staff member Andrew Fraser said: “Happy Europe Day Glasgow. I am delighted to celebrate it within Scotland in togetherness amidst the ongoing Brexit fever.”
This year the European Union celebrates over sixty years of peaceful cooperation, respect of human rights, liberty, democracy, and equality.
Luis Gomes from the University of Glasgow said”; Europe Day is all about celebrating peace and harmony. We should strive to bring happiness across the continent each and every single day. The celebrations remind me that the power of peace and unity lives within us.”
